Castle Hill Markers
The Rotary Club of Townsville Sunrise have made Castle Hill in Townsville a safer place to exercise thanks to their Castle Hill Markers project, completed in partnership with the Townsville City Council.
The project consisted of the installation of location specific guide posts on Castle Hill’s popular walking tracks. These were placed at regular intervals on each of the tracks and included details of the track and position of the marker. The markers enable people walking the tracks to be aware of their position in the event of an injury or other issue encountered whilst exercising, greatly assisting emergency services to locate and assist walkers in need.
Sunrise Rotary Townsville, utilizing an $8,000 Rotary District Designated Fund grant, $6,000 of club funds and in-kind labour, provided in excess of $20,000 of contribution to the Townsville community through supplying and installing the markers on the popular Castle Hill walking tracks. Their bestowment was well received by Townsville City Council, Emergency Services, and the community.
